Gaz de schiste - la caméra qui voit les fuites

La compagnie FLIR Systems avait annoncé la mise en marché d'une caméra qui pouvait détecter en temps réel les fuites de beaucoup de GES. Voici une brève traduction d'une partie du communiqué de presse de la compagnie. La merveille porte le nom de GasFindIR-LW et est en vérité une caméra sophistiquée qui détecte les infra-rouges. Elle est utile à l'EPA et à l'industrie qui veut mieux maîtriser les fuites.

Elle détecte le gaz appelé SF6 (hexafluorure de soufre) à une distance de plusieurs centaines de pieds et fournit des images thermiques à haute résolution qui peuvent être visionnées sur un appareil télé ordinaire ou enregistrées numériquement. En plus du SF6, elle détecte les fuites de chlorure d'acétyle, de bromure d'allyle, de chlorure allylique, de fluorure allylique, de buta-1,3-diène, d'éthylène, de fréon 11, fréon 12, fréon 112, fréon 113, fréon 114, du méthylsilane, du méthylvinylcétone, du méthyl vinyl éther, l'acroléine, du propylène, du styrène, de trichloréthylène, de chlorure de vinyle, du vinyl ether et du fluorure de vinylidène.
