Friends of the Richelieu. A river. A passion.

"Tout cedit pays est fort uny, remply de forests, vignes & noyers. Aucuns Chrestiens n'estoient encores parvenus jusques en cedit lieu, que nous, qui eusmes assez de peine à monter le riviere à la rame. " Samuel de Champlain

"All this region is very level and full of forests, vines and butternut trees. No Christian has ever visited this land and we had all the misery of the world trying to paddle the river upstream." Samuel de Champlain

Self-confidence but hangs by a thread

A child's ego, his self-confidence, depends a lot on the attention given by the parents - how the parents show their love. A child that learns that her father had her just to satisfy her mother's wishes does not feel very much wanted by him and therefore feels she is not worthy enough of his love and will always seek his approval. And will remain unsure as an adult, and will have low self-esteem.

That he disowned her after forcing her to choose between himself and the mother, then died without talking to her, can leave an immense void in one's soul.

T. lived much the same thing, except it is his mother that turned on him, physically when he was a child, and financially when his father left her because of abuse. She is not dead, but her mind is gone because of Alzheimer's. So there is no way of mending that bridge anymore either.

The terrible things we do to one another...
