Le trio est assis sur le quai à la "Plage Panet", à Richelieu. Henri et mon père (qui a pris la photo) entretenaient les escaliers en bois et le quai qui nous permettaient de profiter du bord de la rivière Richelieu réaménagée par la main de l'homme.
Those were the good days when the Richelieu River was clean enough to swim in. My neighbor, with the help of my father, would build and maintain a wooden staircase going down to the river's edge where a truckload of sand was dumped on the shore every year. My neighbor also had a bulldozer realign a row of big rocks that would hold back some of the water so that we could swim in water that came up about to an adult's waist.
No, none of this was very ecologically correct, but then, we're in the 1950's, an just downstream from a power dam.
The trio in the picture were all good friends going back to their schooldays: my mother, her best friend and the friend's husband. They have all passed away now.
