Friends of the Richelieu. A river. A passion.

"Tout cedit pays est fort uny, remply de forests, vignes & noyers. Aucuns Chrestiens n'estoient encores parvenus jusques en cedit lieu, que nous, qui eusmes assez de peine à monter le riviere à la rame. " Samuel de Champlain

"All this region is very level and full of forests, vines and butternut trees. No Christian has ever visited this land and we had all the misery of the world trying to paddle the river upstream." Samuel de Champlain

Wake Up Call!

This morning, around 3AM, like many mornings lately, the headlights of the newspaper deliverer woke up one of the resident Robins that lives near my (open) bedroom window. During the few minutes it takes for the man to slip the newspaper in my mailbox, the car shines brightly towards the bottom of my garden where the Robin sleeps. That is just enough to make the bird think that the sun is rising.

At first, the Robin cries out the call of alarm: it is quite irritating, of course, but soon he calms down and changes to a softer song, the one Robins sing at dawn. He does it just long enough for the real dawn to near, and soon other Robins, and other birds, especially the many Cardinals, join in. By 4AM, it's official: the night is over and a new day begins.

No wonder that by 9PM, I can't take it anymore and have to go to bed I'm so sleepy!
